By Joel Rosenberg:
Washington, foreign capitals, and the media are suddenly abuzz this week with rumors of impending war between Israel and Iran.
Senior U.S. and Israeli officials are speaking with rare candor about the growing possibility of Israeli airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities. A major New York Times Sunday magazine story this week indicates the Israelis are readying to hit Iran in 2012. A Washington Post story now reports that U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes the Israelis are considering massive airstrikes against Iran as early as April, May or June of this year.
At Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany this morning, Panetta wouldn’t back away from the Post report, effectively confirming the story. Since October, the administration has been pressuring Israel not to even consider such strikes. The fact that Panetta is talking openly about an Israeli first strike suggests the White House is deeply worried the epicenter is about to be engulfed in war and are preparing the nation — and the world — for such eventualities.
Is war imminent? I believe the concerns are very valid and that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are, in fact, finalizing their war plans and their civil defense preparations. They may not have made a final decision, but they see the U.S. or international community moving too slowly and indecisively. They fear Iran will have operable nuclear weapons by the end of the year, and even though Iran may not yet be able to attach those to high-speed ballistic missiles — yet being the operative word — they fear a second Holocaust if they don’t act soon.
That said, not everyone is convinced an Israeli-Iranian war will break out in 2012.
This week, I had a long lunch with former CIA Director Porter Goss. We discussed the rising tensions in the epicenter, where they might lead, and the Shia End Times theology driving the current regime in Tehran. Goss and I first met several years ago when I was doing research on Mideast issues. I was surprised but intrigued to learn that he had read Epicenter several times and had become curious about Bible prophecy and its relevance to current events. He recently read The Twelfth Imam and The Tehran Initiative.
We had a great conversation covering a wide range of issues and I wish you could have been with me. While he and I don’t see completely eye to eye on every issue (one might be on how fast events are moving), I deeply respect his wisdom, experience and analysis and wanted to share his vantage point and his insights with you.
Q: How do you assess the likelihood of war between Israel and Iran in 2012?
GOSS: The regime in Tehran has already declared they want to push Israel into the sea. Most observers agree that present Iranian leadership lacks the capability, but not the intent to destroy Israel. Despite the open hostility and the behind-the-scenes maneuvers being conducted by both sides, I believe it unlikely open warfare will break out in 2012. I would look for increasing provocation, more intense covert action, extended psychological warfare and heightened international attention about nuclear proliferation.
Q: How serious a threat do you regard a nuclear-armed Iran to U.S. national security, aside from Israeli security?
GOSS: I rate a nuclear weapon capability in the hands of the present Iranian regime in the top four or five national security concerns of the United States. Principally, providing radical extremist terrorists and state-sponsored terrorist organizations like Hezbollah access to weapons of mass destruction constitutes a clear and present danger. It is a game-changer for our country which we will have to address forcefully and timely. Secondly, opening the gateway to nuclear proliferation follows on the heels of a Persian nuke. Other countries in a region already seething with instability and despair will look to their own safety by acquiring nukes; continuing U.S. hesitation to forcefully address the Iranian situation will be a boon to illegal proliferation activity.
Q: Given all you know about the Iranian regime, do you believe they could be effectively contained, or deterred from using a nuclear weapon? And how much do you worry about the Shia eschatology espoused by Khamenei and Ahmadinejad?
GOSS: The critical question for Israel – and the United States – is the rationality of the current regime in Iran. Is their misplaced radicalism so great that they will accept certain destruction if they first strike with the Persian nuke? Notwithstanding the passionate and hateful rhetoric of Khamenei, Ahmadinejad, the Assembly of Experts and others, I assess they would probably use the nuclear capability for bargaining leverage rather than first strike, at least for the near future. Khamenei’s actions seem to add up to self-survival rather than martyrdom by nuclear vaporization. That makes me think he rationally utilizes “irrationality” as a useful negotiating weapon. The references to the Twelfth Imam fit nicely into the regime’s pattern of keeping Iran watchers off balance. Khamenei is deadly serious about maintaining power on earth. Hopefully, Ahmadinejad does not realize he is expendable before he is expended . Otherwise, he might be tempted by martyrdom.
Q: Thanks, Porter. I really appreciate your insights. God bless you.

Hi there Friends; there has never ever been a time during the amount of years that I have been making comments on this blog, most of the time to the general disdain of others there has never ever been a time where I have claimed to know what the future holds. As that stance still holds fast today, what I am about to say is really nothing much more than speculation, as has been most of what ever said. However, what I see happening in the future is a war in the Middle East to bring forth the Antichrist within the next six months. That, after that war we will see the Antichrist come forth and sign off on the covenant of Daniel Chapter 9, Verse 27, and then shortly after that we shall see the final seven years of mankind's history here on the earth begin, more than likely about the end of the year. If the scenario suggested beforehand does indeed happen, then there will be no doubts at all that we can all finally spell an end to the pre-tribulation theory of the Rapture, finally. As a final note on the origins of the Antichrist - those who are spirit filled are going to know who he the Antichrist is irrespective of their understanding of what the scriptures say relative to what area he is allegedly supposed to originate. Even though the rest of the world may look at the Antichrist and see him as someone who has been Heaven sent, (after he settles the problems in the Middle East) it is only going to be the Christians who are going to know that he has been Satan sent. We will know who he is, we will just know. Now just wait to see him as he comes forth THIS YEAR.
Hi there Friends; the rhetoric between the four world's super powers is really beginning to heat up. In this instance, I am referring to the EU and the US against Russia and China over that one tiny nation of Iran. What if there were ever the occasion that Israel was to attack Iran and the four aforementioned nations were ever to become involved? With what may start as just another one of those nations the US wants to depose in the Middle East, may spread even further to engulf the whole of the globe? Imagine the consequences, it is really far too frightening to consider? Scholars for years and years have seemed to believe that the four beasts of Daniel Chapter 7 refer to kingdoms that have already come and have long since vanished off the face of the earth. However, that may not be the case when there is quite clear mention after the fact of those four beasts appearing here on the earth of the Lord Jesus Christ? The prophecy maybe referring to were four kingdoms who ruled before the Lord came down to earth for the first time? On the other hand, the prophecy may be referring to the four kingdoms mentioned above and that after the clash of clashes takes place the Lord returns back onto the earth once again? Is there anyone out there who would like to add anything at all to the above-mentioned comments with far more meaningful insights than what I am able to supply at the end of my working day while suffering from sheer mental exhaustion? As that is the case, then, it may be time that I stopped for the day and bedded down for the night.
Brother Bob Mitchell; There are times when I am finding it quite difficult to sit here at the computer and type just because of the bad back that I have inherited from the days that I worked as a railways siding labourer. Of course, I have been to the doctors and they said that all that I had was minor arthritis. However, for someone like me who is in quite a bit of pain a lot of time my condition seems to be a lot more than minor? Accordingly, the only solution to the problem that I have is that I do myself in. Barry Smith had a daughter named Debra who committed suicide. Therefore, Andrew Smith seemed to there would be no eternal consequences for doing so. Barry said to never ever do it as it was worse and far worse on the other side. But that in the case of his daughter their excuse was she did not know what she was doing, and that was their way out. Consequently, they would they would see their daughter on the other side. If that the case, and if I should find myself in Hell as a result of this ultimate act of betrayal and selfishness then I should be able to use the same reason to excuse myself to be then whisked off out of Hell and up into Heaven? So that is it, it is now time to bid you all goodbye and go home, so I will see you all when you get there. Just joking, seriously though, (the arthritis part though is no joke though as I really do suffer quite a bit with quite deliberating pain for the reason mentioned above) what do you think of suicide? There is a man over here that aids and assists those suffering with incurable diseases in committing suicide. He thinks that he is doing a good job, but is he really nothing more than a serial killer and by playing God sending the unwitting straight into the arms of Satan? Therefore, what are your thoughts on this quite controversial subject matter? There may be those who are reading your reply who may have had those who are near and dear to them committing the ultimate act of self-centeredness, and then it may be best to reply to this with the greatest amount of tact possible. Kindest regards for the time being.
How the Mark of the Beast is being introduced into Australia: The Mark of the Beast (the microchip implant under the skin) is looming ever and ever closer as those who are quite unprepared for it have it quite insidiously foisted upon them without their ever realizing what is happening. The electronic cashless society leading to the Mark of the Beast begun approximately 40 years ago as the bankcard with the three 6's cleverly concealed on the front. There may be those out there who are reading this and thinking that there is always going to be cash. As that is the case, then there is nothing at all to fear from the Mark of the Beast. However, let me reassure those who are thinking along those lines they are wrong -- and there is going to be time when cash will be cancelled overnight. In addition, there will be no other option if one wishes to buy and sell other than to adopt the Mark of the Beast. Concurrently, what we have in Australia is cash, and then the usual credit cards and debit cards, but what we also have is the ANZ bank introducing a new system where those who wish to do so may transfer money for buying and selling with their mobile phones. As another step closer to the Mark what we also have to be introduced within a matter of a week is an system for electronic buying and selling involving touching a credit card onto a pad that has just been introduced into the EFTPOS machines. Already some McDonald's stores that have started to use this new system as well as 7 Eleven stores. However, if a transaction is made through this touch pad system there is no requirement for either a pin number or a signature. There are quite clearly going to be those who will lose their cards. What that means is whoever finds one of these lost and stolen cards is going to defraud the owner of the card out of their money, in most cases but not all. How clever are those who are introducing the Mark, what I am referring in this instance are those ads where the man loses his wallet with those finding it taking it into the nearest branch of that particular bank. If this were a perfect world then that might happen. Unfortunately, if there ever anyone were to ever lose their card the chances that it would be handed into the nearest branch of that bank, if they had the chance to use that card without the possibility of detection, would be extremely remote indeed. What that indicates to me is that what we are seeing being set up with this new system is a nothing more than a deliberate ploy to trick the unsuspecting consumer into accepting the Mark of the Beast, simply because once under the skin it simply cannot be lost or stolen. What we are dealing with here is not just another new money system, but another form of mind control that is going to force those who take the Mark to worship Satan with the punishment for that being eternal Hellfire.
Suicide is indeed a very contentious topic.
Job 1.21; 'The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.'
Revelation 21.8 says among other offenders that 'The fearful and murderers shall have their part in the lake of fire'.
Suicide is the act of taking one's own life so can in fact be equated with murder.
Only the Lord is our ultimate judge and He alone will be separating the 'Wheat from the tares'.
As regards Barry Smith's daughter Debra, they can only ultimately trust God with her ultimate destiny.
I remember when I first seen and heard of Barry Smith, it was in 2001 I believe being interviewed by Howard Conder on RTV. He came over as a very serious God fearing man. Subsequently as a result of this interview I purchased his books and DVDs etc. When watching these he came over as a 'laugh a minute' sort of a man! He could have cut it as a comedian! I couldn't understand the character change. I only discovered the very sad truth several years later.
This episode had a profound impact on him, wouldn't it with anyone?
I am over 6'4" tall and also suffer from back pains, some days worse than others. I try always to fill my mind with the Abiding Word of God. I pray daily that God would give me the strength to overcome each days trials in every area of my life amongst other things. He is my 'Rock and my fortress' Psalm 71.3. And 'God is our refuge and strength,a very present help in trouble.' Psalm 46.1.
We must also as believers make every effort to 'bring into captivity EVERY thought to the obedience of Christ'. 2 Corinthians 10.5. (Read the context).
If we let evil and wrong thoughts flood our minds there is no end to where they may lead us.
The 'Mark of the Beast'
I am sure that there must be many that visit this site that may have considered the 'MARK' may indeed be spiritual and not physical.
When I read Ezekiel 9.4,6, Revelation 13.16, 14.1 and 20.4 it appears to me that this IS spiritual and NOT physical (that is the receiving of Satan's mark). If true believers are sealed in their foreheads (spiritually) then why is the antithesis to this not true?
As ever Scripture interprets Scripture.
I believe that technology is exponential and will carry on until the Day of the Lord arrives.
Genesis 11.6 would indeed confirm this. Daniel (12.4) was told to 'Seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro,and knowledge shall be increased.' (Technology?).
Don't get me wrong I am not saying that we should not be unaware of our everchanging environment, however what I am saying is this; are we being led astray? God IS in control!
It would appear from Revelation 13.16 that Satan 'causeth all to receive a mark in their right hands or in their foreheads.'
Doesn't Islam in the satellite countries surrounding Israel and elsewhere persecute or indeed kill many that will not submit to Allah? In these countries it is well documented that it is indeed virtually impossible to conduct any form of meaningful business unless you have 'Submitted to Allah'. How many laws will have to change in this country before ever increasing Islamification will have us do the same? Could any here imagine in this 'Green and pleasant land' that we would ever see the day that halal meat amongst much else would be filling our supermarket shelves in this country? Sharia law is creeping...what else?
I don't doubt for a moment as Anonymous has just said that there will be a 'cash collapse' I wonder how this will favour Islam. And I am sure that will cause no end of problems for those that don't trust in God.
There is NO other religion or organisation the world over so I understand that persecutes and murders Christians the way that Islam does. The major tenet of Islam is that it denies God has a son (Sura 19.88-89). Even the apostate Roman Church never made such a claim....
Hi there Brother Colin; you have also made some really other good points within the context of your posting, particularly comparative to what you had said about God being in control at all times. However, the Mark of the Beast is both physical and spiritual. In every sense of the word, the act of taking a microchip implant under the skin is physical. On the other hand it is spiritual in that those who decide to take it will effectively be swearing their allegiance to Satan through the Antichrist. Then of course there are the other trains of thought, one of which you had mentioned in your response, that is, as the Born Again Christian has the seal of God on his forehead there is no room there at all for the Mark of the Beast. I have also heard it said that as the Born Again Christians are spirit filled there is no room there for the worship of the Satan through the mark of the Antichrist? I may have mentioned this once before, but there was an experiment done recently in one of the banks on their employees involving them being implanted with a microchips to see if they would work or not. The results were positive with all but one, a newly converted Christian. It seems with her the Mark of the Beast would not work on her at all. What I am suggesting is that even though the mark may literally be forced upon the unwilling there is never ever going to be a time when it is going to work and send the recipient into Hellfire for unwittingly taking something that they did not want? What that also may mean is that there are going to those employers who will discriminate against those they find out are Born Again Christians because they are not going along with the norm, and new system of buying and selling involving the microchip implant. Already, there are several banks that are outsourcing their jobs overseas to India with that act alone indicating that as there are going to be those Christians working in banks that are a wake up to what is going on. On the other hand, there are those who may be working in similar positions in India who will be unaware of just what then new and insidious system of buying and selling involving the microchip implant involves, simply because for the most part they are not Christians. Islam is a sign of the times with the greatest number of new arrivals coming here in Australia being of this satanic cult. Even as they arrive here on our shores, they are attempting to impose their customs and traditions (Sharia law) on the dinky die Aussie. However, I am happy to report they are being entirely unsuccessful, for the most part. Those of us who have ancestors who had arrived on the first fleet with Captain Cook from the UK, as well as those who are more recent arrivals, are resisting their attempts at the Islamification of Australia. We are doing so with every breath of our fibre, and that does not just include the individual, but the mainstream media as well.
The idea that the mark of the beast would not work on the born again christian is a comforting one but is that truly the case or one isolated incident?
Let us consider the situation of Esau and Jacob. Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of pottage. I believe this story is an example to all believers. Jesus told the parable of the pearl of great price. In the time of severe persecution and possible hunger and the threat of death would we who possess the pearl of great price be tempted to sell out for food, shelter, supposed security, self- preservation? I believe this is a reality we have to face a question we must ask ourselves. The bible says that those who take the mark of the beast worship his image etc will experience the wrath of God without mixture. There are Christians in other parts of the world who are martyred for their faith. I believe that we Christians in those troublesome days to come will have some hard decisions to make... Take the mark or die, starve be imprisoned run for your life and hide but we must develop the resolve to chose whom we will serve our bellies, safety, security(what a crock because unless the Lord watches the city...)self interest, our worldly interests (investments, big house, expensive house, influential friends etc. As for the mark of the beast being spiritual the bible clearly states that no one can buy or sell without it. I do not think the technology exists to see into the spirit yet and I am skeptical if they ever will develop such technology. I am not looking forward to going through the great tribulation. I am not masochistic but I am afraid of falling into the hands of the living God who can throw both body and soul into hell. I am afraid of wrath without mixture and being so tormented that I beg a rock to fall on me but death is removed so I would be required to feel every bit of pain without relief. When that time comes I can only hope that the boldness and resolve that the apostles and the early church had I would have also. We have not resisted unto blood striving against sin. It is appointed to man once to die and then the judgement. I really am not looking forward to the time of Jacobs troubles because in reality it will be my troubles and everyone who wants to live godly in Christ it will also be their troubles. It is one thing to read about other peoples trials and another thing to go through a trial. I remember the words og Hezekiah when he was told that everything he and his forefathers acquired will be carried off to Babylon as well as some of his own flesh and blood will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”Hezekiah replied vs 8 “The word of the LORD you have spoken is good,” . For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.” Hezekiah was a wise man. I sure know the great tribulation will happen . I always was excited by the prospect of seeing the two witnesses and 144 000 in action to be honest but worse tribulation than the world have ever seen? I think not. I just want to be faithful and endure to the end never pulling my hands back from the plow. The reality is not to gamble that the mark would not work on Christians because the redemption of your soul is precious and is not worth the gamble. Revelations clearly states do not take the mark it also states what the penalty is for taking it.
Hi there Friends; while God has promised that Israel would never be forced out of her land once He returns them, He also promises that Israel will be so devastated that individual Jews will have to depend upon firewood again for heating and cooking (Ezekiel 39:9d) The "Time of Jacob's Trouble" may be marching quickly toward the Jewish people."There are currently 200,000 rockets and missiles aimed at Israel, according to Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi. Thousands carrying heavy explosive warheads, and some chemical and biological ones, are aimed at Tel Aviv. And they are in the possession of people who are not exactly Israel's friends. In fact, most are religious extremists bordering on messianic. "Some knowledgeable Jews are leaving Israel because they realize that the "Time of Jacob's Trouble" is upon the Holy Land and that these 200,000 missiles may very well be part of the fulfilment of this End of the Age prophecy. After all, it will not be pleasant for any Jew -- even Christian Jews -- to be living on the land where these missiles are falling. Israel's new anti-missile missile system can knock down a few enemy missiles, but is easily overwhelmed; therefore, radical Islam has chosen to stock up on enormous quantities of missiles that can bring all Israel under the gun. Furthermore, do not believe that radical Muslims will be deterred by an Israeli capability of killing several million of them; several decades ago, their leadership was expressing the belief that, since they numbered 300 million and the Jews only 6 million, they could lose up to half their population as long as the Jews were annihilated. Then, the Muslims could begin to repopulate without any Jews on the land. This thinking is certainly not the Western style of thought, but it is the Islamic. Truly, the time is coming when Michael, Israel's Archangel, will have to "stand up" to defeat Israel's enemies for her and preserve the land of Israel. God Bless
Dear Anonymous; at no point was I suggesting with the aforementioned comments that it would be all right to take the Mark of the Beast. For me to advocate anything along similar lines may have unsavoury eternal consequences for those who misunderstand what I have been suggesting and finish up in Hell, and that is something that I would not, nor would ever want to claim responsible for having been the cause of. On the contrary, you are quite right when you had said that there are clear indications within the word of God relative to the punishment for those who do so, eternal Hellfire. Just to be on the safe side of the fence, it is then best that each one of us does what we think is the best for the sakes of our eternal security, and resist the Mark of the Beast with whatever power we have at our disposal. All that I was suggesting was that those UNSAVED PERSONS who have taken the Mark of the Beast have effectively sworn their allegiance to the Antichrist/Satan. The worship of the Antichrist is what will send the recipient of the Mark into Hell, and not just the physical act of taking a Microchip implant under the skin. However, those of us who are Born Again have already sworn to be faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ have reserved an eternal place in Heaven. Accordingly, those who have made that all-important step in their lives have a blessed assurance of eternal salvation that even taking a microchip implant under the skin is not going to take away. Once again, I am not prodding, nor even suggesting that anyone take the Mark of the Beast, but if a person were truly saved then the faith the saved person should be so strong that there that there would be nothing at all to fear from the Mark of the Beast. On the other hand, if there are those who may not be quite so sure of their salvation then consequently there may be some real fears relative to the Mark of the Beast. However, that is still not to suggest that our friend who made the aforementioned comments fits into that category. All that he/she is doing is just making sure that all of their bases are covered by refusing to take the Mark which is the wisest thing to do given that a person's eternal salvation may rest on whatever decision one makes comparative to the mark/microchip implant. Well done my good and faithful friend keep up the good work
It is wonderful finding a site where end time prophecy is discussed.
Thanks Anonymous for your thorough response. I have a question for you.
Isn't taking the mark of the beast synonymous as renouncing Jesus where the christian is concerned?
"MKJV(i) 9 And a third angel followed them, saying with a great voice, If anyone worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark in his forehead or in his hand, 10 he also will drink of the wine of the anger of God, having been mixed undiluted in the cup of His wrath. And he will be tormented by fire and brimstone before the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. And they have no rest day or night, those who worship the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name."
